(631) 726-8357 Information
Diabetes affects the body's ability to use blood sugar for energy. The main types include type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Diabetes insipidus, a rare disorder, is not related to diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes). Diabetes symptoms may include increased thirst and urination, blurred vision, and fatigue.
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has recognized the educational services of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s program, “Living with Diabetes.” The program, coordinated by Janet O’Grady, MSRD, CDE, CDN, has met the national standards of diabetes self-management education for the period August 7, 2013 through August 7, 2017.
The Hospital’s program includes a free monthly class that takes place in the Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute (third floor) at Noon on the last Wednesday of each month. Each month's session features a diabetes-related topic and often a guest speaker. To reserve space, those interested should call (631) 726-8800. Individualized counseling can also be arranged with Ms. O’Grady by contacting her at (631) 726-8357. Most insurance is accepted.
