Residency & Fellowship Programs

The Residency Program in Social Medicine is dedicated to educating trainees above the typical standards placed on residency programs. Training provided by this program has specific focuses on the biopsychosocial model and cultural sensitivity so that excellent patient-centered care may be provided regardless of setting. Important education on trending medical issues that affect not only the local community, but also the national population are woven into the various didactic and lecture series residents encounter during their tenure. Subjects such as the opiate epidemic, addiction training, tick-borne disease recognition/treatment, and research project implementation are hallmarks of the program. By the completion of residency, trainees will be prepared and confident for a seamless transition to independent practice.

Transitional Year Internship, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and General Surgery Residency Programs have merged with Stony Brook Medicine under the Single Accreditation System.
