The Fellowship Programs in Social Medicine at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital was developed to train physicians for the community setting. The objective of our fellowships is to provide a comprehensive and longitudinal experience that will afford fellows exposure to various treatment settings required for continuity of care.
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is committed to providing the best possible educational experience for each fellow. The program emphasizes inpatient and outpatient medicine and the importance of the physician’s role, not only as a healthcare provider, but also as a patient advocate, educator, and as an agent of change.
The seven core competencies of the educational programs are implemented through the training modules. The fellowship programs are integrative and collaborative in nature. The programs were developed so physicians can share knowledge in their chosen fields of medicine, educate each other, and share their personal and professional growth. The experience intends to produce outstanding physicians interested, not only in treating illness, but in treating patients as a whole person.
