At Stony Brook Southampton Family Medicine Residency Program we know that you want to be an excellent Family Medicine physician equipped to practice in today's dynamic medical landscape. You need a robust family medicine training program that will fit your needs and open doors for you. Many residency programs will only focus on requirements needed for ACGME, whereas we believe that a small community hospital, with university hospital resources, and a focus on Social Medicine with Integrative Medicine, Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Palliative Medicine education, is the optimal environment to produce an ideal family medicine physician.

Application Criteria:
- Only apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
- Three letters of recommendation
- Dean's letter (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
- Medical School transcript
- Personal Statement
- USMLE and/or COMLEX transcript with Step I passing score (required in order to review application)
- USMLE and/or COMLEX transcript with Step II CK and/or CE passing score (required by February 1st in order to be ranked)
Resident Selection for Interviews
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Family Medicine program has a selection committee that consists of the Program Director, Associate Program Director(s), Program Coordinator, Faculty, and select Residents. This committee reviews all applications and is responsible for selecting applicants for interview, participating in the interview process and the final choice of applicants to be ranked in the NRMP match.
Applicants will be selected to interview, through ERAS, on the basis of residency program-related criteria such as preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills and personal qualities--such as motivation and integrity. Academic credentials include medical school grade and performance as reflected in documentation received directly from the medical school, and passing COMLEX or USMLE scores. Letters of recommendation from supervisors, educators and peers, when appropriate, serve to provide additional information or personal characteristics and evaluated as well.
Interviews will be conducted through a virtual platform. Interview day process will be communicated through Thalamus.
All candidates who are interviewed will be given a sample copy of the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital AGREEMENT OF APPOINTMENT and a copy of the ELIGIBILITY and SELECTION POLICY An attestation will be required for candidates to sign stating that the candidate has received a sample copy of the agreement of appointment and Eligibility and Selection policy prior to interview.
