Who is Edie Windsor?
Edith "Edie" Windsor
(June 20, 1929 – September 12, 2017)
An American LGBT rights activist.
She was the lead plaintiff in the 2013 Supreme Court of the United States case United States v. Windsor, which overturned Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act.
It is a landmark legal victory for the same-sex marriage movement in the United States. The Obama administration and federal agencies extended rights, privileges and benefits to married same-sex couples because of the decision.
Who is Rose Walton?
Rose Walton is an HIV/AIDS pioneer and visionary, her endeavors included the creation and implementation of Long Island’s first informational and referral hotline, a statewide college HIV/AIDS educational program, and development of the AIDS Education and Resource Center at SUNY Stony Brook. The Center’s HIV/AIDS services at are named in recognition of her leadership and vision.
