Southampton, NY—Cancer is a relentless disease. Every cancer patient experience may be different, but anxiety and fear are emotions shared by all, and everyone knows that fighting cancer is a tough, time-consuming, emotional and exhausting experience. Whether the time spent undergoing chemotherapy treatment is one day each week or every day, it is a grueling part of the fight.
Some of the tension and stress related to treatment can be calmed thanks to a grant of $13,500 that Southampton Hospital has received from Angie’s Spa, a 501(c)(3) charitable cancer foundation that funds programs with the express purpose of providing free therapeutic spa services to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This generous funding is providing complimentary massage therapy to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Eastern Long Island Hematology/Oncology.
Recent grant funding has allowed for expanded hours in Southampton and a new program for patients undergoing chemotherapy in the Riverhead office. Licensed massage therapists from Southampton Hospital’s Ed & Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute are providing services designed to alleviate painful side effects through relaxation to enhance traditional treatments and give cancer patients a self-esteem boost.
