Douglas Elliman Donates $100K to Southampton Hospital Foundation from Sale of Former Hospital Thrift Shop

Southampton, NY—The former Southampton Hospital Thrift Shop, located in the heart of Southampton Village’s popular shopping district, has sold for $3.95 Million. Douglas Elliman Real Estate donated $100,000 of the profit earned from the sale to the Southampton Hospital Foundation, the not-for-profit fundraising and communications arm of Southampton Hospital.

The prime commercial space at 79 Main Street was listed with Douglas Elliman Hamptons Regional Manager Paul Brennan, who is on the Board of Trustees of the Southampton Hospital Foundation. David Schiffman of Douglas Elliman’s Bridgehampton office represented the buyer, Mark Zucchero, owner of Flying Point Surf and Sport apparel and accessories chain with multiple locations throughout the Hamptons.

Located directly next door to renowned restaurant 75 Main, the site of the former Southampton Hospital Thrift shop receives a lot of year-round foot traffic, with crowds surging during the peak summer season. The Hospital operated the 4,700 SF Thrift Shop at 79 Main Street for decades before moving in 2008 to a smaller leased space on Southampton’s West Main Street while maintaining ownership of the original location. Proceeds earned from the hospital thrift store donations and sales have been used for hospital improvements, patient care, and equipment.

"The community relies heavily on the Southampton Hospital because it is the only large scale medical facility in the region. Through volunteers and donations, the Thrift Shop has done a lot over the years to support the Hospital. To that end, we at Douglas Elliman felt strongly about donating a large portion of the money earned in the sale back to the Southampton Hospital Foundation where it would do the most good,” said Brennan.

“We are thankful to the Douglas Elliman team for its history of philanthropic support for Southampton Hospital and their professionalism in marketing and selling the Hospital’s former Thrift Shop building, “said Robert S. Chaloner, President and CEO, Southampton Hospital.

Mr. Zucchero, the new owner of 79 Main, plans to open a Flying Point Surf and Sport in the location. The store will carry sporting goods and apparel for both men and women.
