Ellen Hermanson Foundation Donates $295K to Southampton Hospital

Southampton, NY—The Ellen Hermanson Foundation has awarded Southampton Hospital two grants totaling $295,000 to fund technology and patient support services at The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center. A grant of $170,700 includes $100,000 that will be applied to the purchase of a Tomosynthesis 3-D Imaging System at the Medical Atrium in Hampton Bays, and $70,700 that will be applied to the purchase of diagnostic and treatment technology including a new DEXA system and Radioactive Seed Localization. The grant of $124,300 will fund Ellen’s Well services including an oncological social worker, the annual “Day of Renewal and Hope,” the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” program, and transportation for cancer patients undergoing treatment. This year marks the milestone 20th anniversary of Ellen’s Run, an annual 5K race that is the principal fundraising vehicle for the Ellen Hermanson Foundation.

The Foundation is a long-time partner of Southampton Hospital’s Ellen Hermanson Breast Center, which is the only facility of its kind on Eastern Long Island. This most recent funding will bring Tomosynthesis to Hampton Bays, providing convenient access for patients who live in communities west of the Shinnecock Canal, and enabling the Hospital to invest in new technology to assure correct and timely diagnosis and treatment. The Foundation, through its Ellen’s Well program, has always understood the critical need for services that support patients and their families during their treatment and recovery.

In making the announcement, Hospital President and CEO, Robert Chaloner comments, “From the beginning, the Ellen Hermanson Foundation has generously supported the growth and exceptional quality of Southampton Hospital’s breast health program. The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center has distinguished itself by offering state-of-the-art academic medical center care in a warm and compassionate community hospital setting. The communities we serve are fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and caring Foundation supporting our fight against breast cancer on Eastern Long Island." Comments Julie Ratner, Ellen Hermanson Foundation Chair, "Medical care is not a luxury. The Foundation is committed to supporting Southampton Hospital by providing the necessary funds to ensure that women and men have access to quality breast health care close to home. That is why we keep the money we raise on the East End in the community."
