Southampton, NY—Southampton Hospital has announced funding in the amount of $290,000 from The Ellen Hermanson Foundation. This support completes the purchase of a Hologic dual detector mammography system with Tomosynthesis 3D capabilities, state-of-the-art technology that has been in place since last year when the Foundation committed to supporting this significant diagnostic upgrade.
In addition, this funding, through the Foundation’s “Ellen’s Well” program, provides for an array of support services for breast cancer patients undergoing treatment and recovery. These services include an oncologic social worker to provide psychosocial support; nutrition counseling; transportation to treatment; bilingual/bicultural Patient Navigator; wellness programs such as yoga and massage therapy; Renewal and Hope programs; as well as other programs designed to help women manage the illness and the impact it has on their families.
In making the announcement, Hospital President and CEO, Robert Chaloner commented, “The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center has been a critical resource for women on the East End, enabling us to provide a comprehensive array of diagnostic services and treatment, as well as the invaluable support services for diagnosed patients and their families. The board of directors of the Ellen Hermanson Foundation understands the relationship between the mutually essential state-of-the-art technology and the menu of services their funding provides. The Ellen Hermanson Foundation has been behind the Hospital’s exceptional program from the beginning, helping us to expand the number of patients served and to assure that they receive what is needed on every level.”
The Ellen Hermanson Breast Center has distinguished itself by offering state-of-the-art “academic medical center” care in a warm and compassionate community hospital setting. Comments Julie Ratner, Foundation Chair, “We are happy to continue to support Southampton Hospital because it is our belief that medical care is not a luxury and that people should have access to quality care close to home. The funds raised by the Ellen Hermanson Foundation are dedicated to benefitting our East End community.”
