Green Team Reduces Hospital Carbon Footprint

Southampton, NY—In 2010 Southampton Hospital pledged to become an environmental steward with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A Green Team was formed to coordinate efforts to reduce the Hospital’s carbon footprint and further improve our planet’s environment. The most recent Environmental Assessment Report issued by the EPA noted the Hospital has reduced its carbon footprint by 6,390 MTCO2e* – the equivalent of carbon dioxide emissions from burning 716,379 gallons of gasoline – since the program’s inception. Initiatives implemented by the Hospital’s Green Team included: Energy conservation, Nitric Oxide reduction, Solid waste recycling, Electronics recycling, and Eco-friendly landscaping. The Hospital’s cost savings as a result of these environmental measures is $211,000 since 2010.
