LIPA Helps Southampton Hospital Go Green

Southampton, NY—Southampton Hospital has teamed up with the Long Island Power Authority to save over $14,000 annually through LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program.  With the help of LIPA’s energy efficiency programs, the Hospital has replaced its existing, old, and inefficient chilling unit with a new high-efficiency unit.  It is estimated that the result of this upgrade will be a savings of approximately 75,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) and $14,000 per year in energy costs. In addition, LIPA has awarded the Hospital with rebates totaling over $16,000.  Robert Chaloner, Southampton Hospital’s President & CEO, comments, “It is imperative for our community hospital to continue to protect our environment by being “green-conscious” in every way that we can.  LIPA has been a good partner for the Hospital, and its program has enabled considerable cost-savings for us as well.”

Efficiency Long Island, a 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program, offers a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives to LIPA’s residential and commercial customers to assist them in reducing their energy usage and thereby lowering their bills. This LIPA program has lowered emissions of harmful pollutants that contribute to climate change.  It is estimated that implementation of Efficiency Long Island will reduce CO2 emissions by about 12 million metric tons compared to the EC2 that would be produced from new power plants burning natural gas. This is equivalent to removing 2.5 million cars from Long Island roads. “It is encouraging to see Long Islanders participating in LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program,” said LIPA Chief Operating Officer John D. McMahon.  “We will continue to work with business leaders, school officials, government officials and civic leaders to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and promote the important message of clean and efficient energy to the next generation.”
