Southampton, NY—In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day and Black History month (February), the Residency Program in Social Osteopathic Medicine (RPSOM) at Southampton Hospital welcomed Gregson H. Pigott, MD, MPH to speak to medical students and residents about the health disparities in different racial/ethnic groups in Suffolk County and Southampton Town. Dr. Pigott is the Director of the Office of Minority Health and Medical Director of the Division of Emergency Medical Services for the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. Awareness of health disparities is an important part of the education for resident physicians and medical students in Social Medicine. As part of the medical team, these physicians will play a significant role in helping correct some of the disparities that exist based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, nationality or sexual orientation/identity.
