Southampton, NY—Southampton Hospital has earned a Quality Respiratory Care Recognition award (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in their hospitals.
Only 700 hospitals, approximately 15% of hospitals in the United States, have applied for and received this award. This is the 6th award Southampton Hospital has received for their respiratory services. Respiratory Therapists are coordinated by administrative director R. Jeffrey Russell, MBA, RT, RRT, and receive medical direction from Howard M. Sklarek, MD, Pulmonologist, Internist, Critical Care Practitioner.
The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified Respiratory Therapists to provide respiratory care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their Respiratory care Services.
This award recognizes Southampton Hospital’s exceptional staff of Respiratory Therapists, specialty trained NYS-licensed professionals who work under a physician’s order to provide a wide range of breathing treatments and other services to people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS and other lung or lung-related conditions. They also care for premature infants and are key members of lifesaving response teams charged with handling medical emergencies. Southampton Hospital’s department maintains 24/7 coverage, providing the highest quality of Respiratory Services to our community.
