The Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Transitional Year Residency Program seeks to provide trainees with comprehensive clinical education in a community based setting. Our trainees are taught the principles of the biopsychosocial model of medicine and will come to know their patients not just for their ailments, but also for their unique personal aspects. Our trainees graduate from this program ready to enter into any clinical path of their choosing.
The Transitional Year program has four joint tracks with the following departments:
- Joint TY/Ophthalmology with the Stony Brook Medicine Department of Ophthalmology Residency Program: 3 residents
- 3 year MD program Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University: 1 resident
- Joint TY/Radiology with the Stony Brook Medicine Department of Radiology Residency Program: up to 5 residents
- Joint TY/Preventive Medicine with the Stony Brook medicine department of Preventive Medicine Program: 1 resident
