(Southampton, NY)--The opening of the Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department (SB EHED) is helping to ease the surge of patients at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Emergency Department (SBSH ED), providing greater access to expert critical care to those living and visiting Hampton Bays, Quogue, Westhampton, Flanders and Riverhead.
“The Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department is successfully managing the critical needs of those who live furthest east on the South Fork, which has resulted in the planned lessening of patient volume at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Emergency Department,” said Darin Wiggins, Vice Chair and Site Director for Emergency Medicine, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. “This allows for an increase in admittance to our Southampton ED for those further west, who are in need of emergency care.”
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is a Level III Trauma Center and a primary Stroke Center. The hospital, one of only 16 in the New York state to receive three consecutive Leapfrog A grades for safety, has a state-of-the-art Cath Lab for interventional heart procedures, advanced robotic-assisted surgical systems, a laser-targeted treatment for late-stage prostate cancer, and a hyperbaric wound care center, among many other high-end diagnostic and surgical technologies, all administered by skilled Stony Brook specialists and physicians.
“Providing 24/7 emergency services in East Hampton is part of Stony Brook Medicine's commitment to expand access to world-class healthcare throughout the East End,” said Emily Mastaler, Chief Administrative Officer, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. “In addition to serving those in the Town of East Hampton, the East Hampton Emergency Department helps to reduce emergent patient volume in the Southampton ED, particularly during the busy summer season when the population on the South Fork increases three times that of the colder and winter months.”
“Our emergency departments in East Hampton and Southampton are fully staffed with highly skilled and dedicated Stony Brook Medicine emergency specialists and professionals who are ready to provide critical care,” said Sheryll Allbright, RN, Director, Emergency Department, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
The Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department is located at 400 Pantigo Place in East Hampton. It is the only off-campus, freestanding Emergency Department in Suffolk County. The entrance to the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Emergency Department is on Lewis Street between Meeting House Lane and Herrick Road in Southampton. Parking is easily accessible at both locations. For more information about either location, visit https://southampton.stonybrookmedicine.edu/services/emergency-medicine.
