Southampton Hospital Offers Free Cup of Coffee in New Cafeteria March 18-22

Southampton, NY—Stop by the Southampton Hospital Cafeteria for a free cup of coffee from March 18-22, 2013 and check out the newly-renovated space along with healthy new food options. The cafeteria, located in the basement of Southampton Hospital at 240 Meeting House Lane in Southampton, is open to the public from 6:45 AM to 6:15PM (closed for one-hour breaks at 10:15AM and 2:15PM). Prices are very affordable.

Exciting new food choices from Morrison are now available Monday through Friday during lunch hours (11:15AM to 1:45PM). Pizza, flatbread sandwiches, calzones, and fresh garlic knots are featured at a new pizza station. The new “Action Station” showcases a different theme each day. A chef will prepare an ethnic dish with fresh ingredients while you wait.

The salad bar has been reconfigured to include a build-your-own sandwich area, along with the salads and soups offered previously. Items are weighed at the register and priced accordingly. Track your calories by looking up Morrison recipes on the My Fitness Pal application for smartphones.

Convenient grab-and-go coolers are stocked with items that can be purchased quickly for lunch on the run. Enjoy the new coffee bar or a fountain beverage at nearby stations along the same “take-out” wall.

Robin Pfennig, Director of Nutritional Services for Southampton Hospital, wanted the new cafeteria to be a place for people to relax, so she chose calming blue paint for the walls. “We are looking forward to additional murals by Heather Dunn & Co. of East Hampton and we also hope to display artwork from local school children in the future,” she said. (Heather Dunn & Co. has painted cheerful beach scenes along the cement hallways of the Hospital’s basement.)

A new ceiling, lighting, 50-inch TV screens, ceiling fans, laminate wood flooring, and wooden tables and chairs complete the cafeteria makeover. The Hospital donated the lightly used chairs and tables to the community room at the Senior Housing Complex next to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Amagansett.  In addition, some of the old tables and chairs are being donated to the East Hampton Food Pantry in Windmill Village.

“The makeover is dramatic, but much of the work that was done on the cafeteria will never be seen. New electrical and plumbing infrastructure is behind the walls and under the floors,” said Dave Lopez, Director of Facilities & Engineering for Southampton Hospital. “Many thanks to everyone who helped make this project a success. We hope the staff and guests will enjoy the new cafeteria.”
