Southampton, NY—The Long Island Community Foundation has awarded $50,000 to Southampton Hospital for the implementation of NextGen, an electronic medical and dental records management system at the Hospital’s Shinnecock Health Clinic. This grant is made possible, in part, by the Greentree Foundation Fund and the Henry Shepard Fund, unrestricted funds at the Long Island Community Foundation (LICF).
NextGen Awarded to Southampton HospitalSince 1995, the Hospital has worked with the Shinnecock Nation, a federally-recognized Native American Indian Tribe with its Reservation located in Southampton, to provide health care and dental services at this satellite facility. Currently all clinical records are maintained in paper charts at the Clinic, an antiquated and inefficient system. With the NextGen system, the Hospital will improve continuity of care for 750 medical patients and 1,000 dental patients. Laboratory and radiology information will be integrated electronically with the patient’s medical record along with information from other clinical providers, bringing a patient’s total healthcare record together, and allowing for monthly assessment of patients in need of follow-up care for preventive or chronic disease management.
