Southampton, NY—Southampton Hospital has announced an expansion of its women’s health program with the addition of Lisa Johnson, DPT, OCS, WCS, CSCS, whose practice, Women’s Health Physical Therapy, encompasses services related to the evaluation, treatment, and education of women’s health issues across the life span. Included are dysfunction in urology, pelvic floor dysfunction and pain, obstetrics, gynecology, gastroenterology, bone health, post-breast cancer surgical rehabilitation, eating disorders, menopausal symptoms, sexual health, sports medicine issues unique to women, and symptoms of abuse. “Dr. Johnson is one of only ten specialists in New York certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties—there are only 154 nationwide—as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, as well as in Women’s Health. Also certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Dr. Johnson earned a Post-Professional Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University. Dr. Johnson has served on the Stony Brook University faculty for the past 12 years, and currently teaches in the Entry-Level and Post-Professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy Programs in the areas of manual therapy techniques of the spine and pelvis, strength training and program design for athletes, sport specific training, speed and agility, Pilates, Yoga and complementary therapies in rehabilitation. Dr. Johnson educates the general public and other healthcare providers on low back, pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction in lectures throughout the community. Her current research interests include women’s health related issues with a focus on pelvic floor dysfunction and the role of wellness for survivors of breast cancer.
