Clinical and Educational Work Hours

PURPOSE:

To promote patient safety and education through carefully constructed clinical and educational work hour assignments for all graduate medical education training programs within Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.  This institutional policy governs resident clinical and educational work hours that supports the physical and emotional well-being of the resident, promote an educational environment and facilitate patient care while monitoring the resident work hours. 

Wellness

PURPOSE:

The Office of Graduate Medical Education at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is committed to ensuring that trainees and faculty remain physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy while training and teaching.  Doing so, allows trainees and faculty to find meaning and fulfilment in their career choices.

Fatigue Mitigation

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this policy is to educate all trainees and faculty to recognize the signs of fatigue mitigation the trainee's performance and potentially impact patient care negatively. Procedures are established to transfer clinical responsibilities when the trainee's fatigue is a potential risk to the patient or others.

Supervision

PURPOSE:

To inform all trainees of Supervision and Precepting policies.

Moonlighting

 PURPOSE:

To inform all residency and fellowship program trainees of moonlighting policies.

 

Didactics

PURPOSE:

Graduate Medical Education is to provide trainees a structured didactic experience throughout training.

ACGME Leave of Absence

PURPOSE:

To inform all trainees of Leave of Absence and policy.
