Pre-Operative Instructions and Information
No. Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure. You may have one 8-ounce glass of water or BLACK coffee or tea (no milk, cream, or non-dairy creamers or honey) up to three hours prior to your arrival time at the hospital. THIS INCLUDES GUM AND MINTS!

Specific medication instructions will be provided by your surgeon, your primary care provider, specialist, or the pre-surgical team. If you have questions about your medications, please contact us. To help track your medications and the times at which they were taken in the days leading up to your surgery, download and print this form.
The Scheduling Department is open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. On the day before your surgery, please call 631-726-8282 between 12:00 Noon and 3:00 p.m. to find out what time you should arrive at the Hospital on the day of your surgery. (If your procedure is on a Monday, please call on Friday.)
Upon arrival, go directly to the Patient Access office in the main lobby. Once registered, you may wait in the lobby for the clinical staff to be ready for you. Once your room is ready, one of the patient access staff members will take you to the Ambulatory Surgery Unit.
Registration entails reviewing all demographic information, gathering signatures on all applicable consents, and collecting any co-pay needed for the procedure. If you already registered over the phone with our call center, you can expect an expedited check-in experience for your procedure.
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital offers free valet parking service at the main entrance at 240 Meeting House Lane, Southampton. If you would like to park yourself, there is a patient parking lot located across the street from the main lobby. Your first stop is the Patient Access Office located on the left-hand side of the main lobby.
Handicap-accessible parking is located at the Herrick Road entrance, with direct access to the Pre-Surgical Testing area through the Handicap entrance. If you choose to use this handicapped parking lot, please remember you must still register in the Patient Access office located in the main lobby.
Please note: you CANNOT drive yourself home after surgery. You will need to be transported by a personal escort or family member. We cannot allow you to take an uber or cab without an escort or family member present.
- List of medications you are currently taking (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal), including the dosages and time of day you normally take the medication
- List of all current physicians and specialists, including phone and fax numbers, if you have them
- List of past medical problems (if any)
- List of past surgeries (if any)
- Current health insurance information
During Surgery
The doctor and/or team assigned to your case will call your assigned contact or family member when you have been transported to the recovery room. On the day of surgery, it is encouraged that all phone calls be answered, as any of them could be from your physician or surgical team with updates.
Our staff is committed to making your stay as comfortable as possible.
Pastoral Visits
You may contact a clergy person of your faith for prayer, counsel and administration of sacraments and rites. If you would like a clergy person to visit, please notify your nurse.
Smoking
For the health of its staff, patients and visitors, Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted anywhere at the Hospital including the parking lots and the grounds.
Internet Access
Wi-Fi is available free of charge for Stony Brook Southampton Hospital patients and visitors. Search for “SBMED-Guest” and agree to the terms of service to use this Internet connection.
Post-Operative Instructions and Information
No. You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery. You will need a personal escort or family member with you to use public transportation, uber or cab. There is no such thing as a “Medical Cab”, and we are not allowed to permit you to use one after surgery.
Depending on the time of your admission, your first meal may be chosen for you by your assigned catering associate. Thereafter, you will receive a personalized menu, and your catering associate will visit you to review your meal selections. If you are away from your room during this time, your catering associate will call you to review your meal selections.
Breakfast 7:45 am to 9:00 am
Lunch 11:45 am to 1:00 pm
Dinner 4:45 pm to 6:00 pm
We cannot accept any Uber Eats, Door Dash or other delivery app orders, nor can we accept any personal Amazon orders. Flower deliveries are dependent on the approval of the attending nurse on your floor.
