Maternity Pre-Registration Packet - English & Spanish
At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, every birth is special and our Maternity Center is designed to meet the individual needs of our mothers and their families, including mothers and babies who need advanced care. We welcome your partner or another person who is close to you to be present during your labor and delivery.
Labor and Delivery
Our family-centered setting with private labor/delivery rooms is designed to provide a supportive, comfortable and medically safe birthing environment. Each is equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring capabilities for mother and baby. Anesthesiologists with specialty training in obstetrics assist you with pain relief during and after childbirth. Our labor and delivery RNs have competency in fetal monitoring and all Maternity staff is competent in Neonatal Resuscitation. Should a Caesarian section be necessary, a dedicated, specially-equipped state-of-the-art operating suite is located within the Maternity Center.
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is a participant in the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Safe Motherhood Initiative (SMI). The SMI officially kicked off in May 2013 and is working with more than 10,000 healthcare providers and 115 birthing facilities to develop and implement standard approaches for handling obstetric emergencies associated with maternal mortality and morbidity. The SMI focuses on the three leading causes of maternal death – obstetric hemorrhage (severe bleeding), venous thromboembolism (blood clots), and severe hypertension in pregnancy (high blood pressure). Post-partum
Beautifully appointed private rooms with bathrooms help you and your new baby become acquainted in a restful and quiet environment, while our highly trained nurses are ready to give you personalized attention and respond to your questions and concerns. Your room is also equipped with television and WiFi access. You may choose to have your baby with you 24 hours a day, or use our nursery at night. If you plan to breastfeed, our trained nurses can assist you with the latest techniques to help you and your baby get a healthy start.
Nursery
The cheerful, state-of-the-art Nursery is monitored at all times by our nurses. Our security system assures round-the-clock safety for all babies.
Education and Support

Clinically reviewed every year to ensure accuracy, programs follow the American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on “Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk” and support Baby Friendly guidelines and initiatives.

Choosing an Obstetrician
When choosing your Obstetrician, make sure that your health insurance is accepted and that the office location will be convenient for you. If you have any specific ideas about your labor and delivery, discuss them in advance to make sure your doctor will be able to accommodate you.
