Respiratory Therapy

(631) 726-8642

At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital our Respiratory Therapists work with some of the latest technologies available, including mechanical ventilators, cardiopulmonary monitoring, therapeutic respiratory treatments, and diagnostic procedures. The department maintains 24/7 coverage, providing the highest quality of Respiratory Services to our community. Respiratory Therapists are trained in the assessment and treatment of patients with pulmonary diseases. All are licensed by the State of New York Education Department and credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Respiratory Therapists consult with physicians and other healthcare staff to help develop and modify individual patient care plans, and, many times, provide complex therapy requiring considerable independent judgment such as caring for trauma patients in the Emergency Department and patients on life support in the Hospital’s critical care units. Respiratory Therapists also provide relief to patients with chronic Asthma and Emphysema.

Respiratory Therapists practice under physician direction treating a wide range of patients—from the newborn to geriatrics. Respiratory Therapists have the satisfaction of making a real difference in the lives of their patients.

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Respiratory Department is a six-time winner of the AARC Quality Respiratory Care Recognition Award.
